The Titan on the Tracks is the first episode and season premiere of the second season of Bones.

Summary[]

Brennan meets Dr. Camille 'Cam' Saroyan, an ex of Booth and recently created the first-ever head of Forensic at the Jeffersonian, at the site of a train/car crash with three fatalities. It included US senator Paula Davis and Wall Street tycoon Warren Lynch, who was dead at least six hours earlier, and whose firm Lynchpin International was about to face SEC proceedings, likely to make his stock plummet -an opportunity for stock short-selling worth many millions. Lynch was also on Mexican heroin with the boosting narcotic fentanyl and found out as serially unfaithful by his wife Brianna. Lynch's P.I. Rick Turco says he was hired to investigate a yet unknown blackmailer. Booth traces the heroin to petty dealer Eddie Bean. Vince McVicar, the pig farmer who killed Bones' mother, is himself murdered in jail; his killer admits to have been hired by her own father, Max Keenan. Zack and Angela find the Lynch corpse is actually not his, dental records were expertly falsified; shortly thereafter the real Lynch is located in a hospital, but most unlikely ever to wake from a coma, only Turco doesn't know that yet. Meanwhile Camille proves her value in dealing with the judicial authorities, notably prosecutor Lisa Supac.

Trivia[]

  • First episode with Tamara Taylor as Dr Camille Saroyan. When introduced to Brennan, there is obvious tension that hangs around until Tamara Taylor becomes a main character in episode The Girl with the Curl.
  • Dr. Goodman's absence from the show is explained as him taking a two month sabbatical.
  • First episode with "The Royal Diner" as a main set.
  • The episode takes some inspiration from the Ufton Nervit rail crash of 2004 and the Glendale train crash in 2005, involving deadly train derailments from passenger trains colliding with road vehicles with suicidal drivers inside.
  • After numerous complaints, the opening credits were changed so that the actors' pictures matched up with when their names appeared on the screen.
  • This is the second episode that Booth responds to the question "Where did you find her?" with "In a museum"
  • Bones mentions Booth's "big gambling problem" for the first time, setting up later conflicts.
  • In the beginning of the episode, when Bones and Booth are making their way over to the crash site, we can clearly see a continuity error when Bones ties her hair up twice.
  • When Hodgins figures out it is Warren Lynch, you can clearly hear Angela say who's Warren Lynch. But in the next scene she is listing the things Warren Lynch is known for. How could she do that if she did not know who it was.
