Carole Morrissey was a guidance counselor that was murdered by Christopher Pelant, one of her students. She was murdered by Pelant so he could write himself a recommendation to go to college. Pelant killed her while she was jogging in the forest with his grandfather's Japanese sword and then she was buried. She was later dug up by Temperance Brennan, who was able to determine that she had been murdered. Sweets' analysis of Pelant's college recommendation letter confirmed that it had been faked as the writing style more closely matched Pelant's choice of certain phrases and areas of focus rather than Morrissey's.
